The Locust
Valley Rotary has initiated a monthly program to enable its members
to give of their time. Each month one night will be dedicated
to a Service Project. During this night each month, a different
charity or organization will be visited/assisted for approximately
two to four hours. Participation is not mandatory, however for
those that would like more fellowship, have trouble making it
to day time lunches or events, or enjoy helping others, this is
a terrific and rewarding experience.
In January a group of twelve visited the
Ronald McDonald house and cooked dinners for the families whose
children were undergoing hospital treatment. In February six nights
were spent (two persons per evening) assisting with dinner and
after dinner activities at the North Shore Homeless Shelter.
On Saturday, March 24, 2001, volunteer
Rotarians were assisting The Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club.
The project was stuffing approximately 2000 goodie bags for the
Boys and Girls club upcoming conference in Manhattan. (See pictures)
The service project for April was run in
conjunction with the March of Dimes walk/volunteer day on Sunday,
April 23, 2001.
Mike Coco is our liaison with the Glen
Cove Walk and he is the coordinator of the volunteers, assisting
with registration and the final check point. Our club has assisted
in this endeavor for many years. This year in addition, members
of our club were walking the 3 mile route with the interact club
who also participates each year.
On May 24, 2001, Volunteers were at the
Jones Manor for a sing-a-long/dessert party. Approximately 45
residents joined us. Dean M. helped us out in the music department.
On Marh 13, 2002 Volunteers from our club
cooked dinner for the disabled children at St Christopher
